It was a pair of these AussieBum Portsea’s that caused me to start this block back in April/May 2005. An amazing steamroom threesome with my roommates and I was wearing a pair of Portsea’s.
I just love these speedos – they are loose in the front and they aren’t that ‘flamboyant’ that I can’t wear them at the pool. Actually I’m going to wear mine at the pool this afternoon.
These speedos are in the ‘Loose’ range from AussieBum. You can also get them in the ‘Booster Jock’ Loose range. I’ve had these and I personally find they get a little uncomfortable if you wear speedos all the time like I do. But they look great.
I’ve been thinking that AussieBum is getting more and more expensive these days and at AU$36 they are still OK but getting up there. For those of you in the US they are up near $40.
Having owned 3 or 4 pairs of these I can testify that they last for ever – I’ve even had them fade before the material breaks down. Being nylon they don’t stretch too much either so no need to buy them smaller than your normal size.
You can’t order these with the logo on the front but one of my members works at AussieBum and send me some through. Here are the Portsea’s that I own…..
A couple of months back I was asked (or maybe I asked, I can’t remember) to contribute some speedo/underwear reviews to ‘A Mens Underwear Blog’. Tim, who runs the site loves speedos and we’ve been online mates for years it seems now.
So for my first ever speedo review I decided to pick something I have never owned before, something Aussie and something not too ‘gay’. I had heard of Budgy Smugglers so I ordered a pair.
I ordered them when I was in Colorado with Kip and they took maybe 3 weeks to arrive but so does everything travelling that far.
I ordered the ‘Royales with Cheese’ which is a blue pair with yellow writing. I ordered a large, what I normally order with AussieBum and next time I’ll go the medium. I bought these because I needed more speedo to use at the pool and they are great. Nice comfy fit, the lycra material is nice and smooth and so far they haven’t been destroyed by the chlorine in the pool – saying that I’ve had them in the pool maybe a dozen times so no real guage there.
At AU$40 (which is US$40) I think it is a bit steep in my mind for a plain blue speedo (I didn’t ask for a freebie I bought mine).
When I ordered mine I didn’t notice the style that is pictured below – they look hot!!!
For those of you not in Australia and who don’t know what a Budgie is – it is a bird, I think from the parrot family. The term Budgie Smuggler is Aussie slang for a pair of speedos (cock is your budgie and wearing tight speedos is smuggling your budgie). I’m not sure who is the founder of the company but Budgie is spelt with an ie instead of a y but I think the brand “Budgy Smuggler” kinda works and I like it.
In conclusion, I have no problems with my Budgie Smugglers. Their website is easy to user, their ordering system worked and the product made it from Australia all the way to Colorado. I’d just buy a smaller size and if they knocked $10 off the price of them I’d be an even bigger fan.
Their website is www.BudgySmuggler.com.au
I’d love to hear your comments if you’ve owned a pair and if there is anything I’ve commented on which you disagree with I’d love to hear about it.
Here are some pics I took of my Royales with Cheese not far from my place.
