Julio, pictured below, has been a fan of this blog for years and finally decided to submit some of his own speedo photos. He looks a lot younger than his 27 years and living in Brazil I’m sure he gets to wear his speedos all the time.
Julio has a thing for ADIDAS speedos (sungas he tells me) and was happy to share his photos in exchange for a membership to SwimmerBoyz.com.
There is also a gallery of x-rated photos that Julio sent me. I’m going to save them for the members (click here to join for just $5).
This wintery weather is starting to be a pain…. I wanna be outside on the beach in my speedos!!!
I do have some travel on the horizon, looks like I’ll be heading down to the Snowy Mountains (yes we have mountains and snow and ski/snowboard resorts here in Australia – Perisher has 51 lifts!!!!). Alex’s family have a share in an old ski club down there and he is organizing a trip in August. His girlfriend and Surfer Chick will be there (if she is still hanging out with me) so that could be fun. I don’t think we’ll quite have the privacy that I get in Kip’s hottub but I’m looking forward to dusting off the snowboard.
On the topic of travel though, I have been thinking what I can do to avoid this Aussie winter, it is just mean having a beautiful beach but it being too cold to enjoy it. The US doesn’t seem very speedo friendly if I wanted to spend a northern summer there. A friend of mine has mentioned Spain because it is cheap and I think it would be pretty speedo friendly. Keen to hear any ideas.
Brazil shares the same summer as Aussie which kind of rules it out but I was wondering if speedos are popular down there? The famous beach in the pics below is Copacabana right? I’m assuming it is pretty touristy (like Bondi which I think kinda sucks – there are way better beaches up here), so are there lots of speedos or more tourists in dork shorts?
Expedia (the travel website) did a beach survey back in July and speedos were discussed in detail.
Here are some results that I thought were interesting:
- Only 7% of Aussie’s said they are ‘Speedo Lovers’ but 72% said speedos are acceptable beach attire!!!
- Nor surprisingly, only 50% of American’s said that speedos were acceptable beach wear.
- The lowest in the survey was Japan where only 29% said speedos were acceptable – kind of odd since in Onsens you aren’t allowed to wear anything.
Top 5 Countries where speedos were acceptable to wear on the beach:
- France – 91%
- Italy – 87%
- Brazi- 86%
- Sweden – 83%
- Australia – 72%
My take from this survey, I’m surprised how many Aussie’s thought it acceptable beachwear. My main group of mates on the Central Coast are all between 20yo and 30yo and we hang out on the beach and play cricket and I can’t imagine any of them wearing a speedo when just hanging out. At the pool or going for an early morning swim would be fine but I don’t think they are that speedo tolerant just yet.
Last time I was a member at the Gosford pool a majority of guys wore speedos where here in Colorado and even in San Francisco where I was a member of a pool, I’m in the minority when I’m wearing speedos.
Maybe with the soccer World Cup and the Olympics down in Brazil, their love for speedos will spread north into America.
