The weather here on the Northern NSW Coast is rather wintery and not quite speedo beach weather. It is a bit of a shame because I’m looking forward to doing naughty things with Kip on the beach.
Being the middle of an Australian winter, Kip brought his snowboarding gear with him and I’ve been looking forward to getting to the Snowy Mountains for some turns – last time I snowboarded down there was on a high school trip.
I have mentioned this on this blog over the last few weeks and late last week I got an email from a fan/reader, Adam, who has a house in Jindabyne and is heading down next week with some gay friends and has offered a spare room if Kip and I wanted to hang out with them. Over the weekend I spoke to Adam and we’ve lined it up. So on Thursday Kip and I are driving down to Jindy for a long weekend with Adam and then we might stay on through the next week.
Sounds like the makings of a great trip.
Adam sounds really nice, this is a trip that he and his long term boyfriend do every year and they always get a bunch of friends (all gay guys) together for the trip.
Ow, and some important things to keep in mind….. there is a hottub and Adam is a speedo fan.
Kip has been here for just a week now and holy cow has he been immersed in Aussie culture!!!
It is super late here and I’m writing this post as Kip is passed out after another huge day.
We were up early this morning for a surf with the boys, Kip is not a surfer and I think his poor arms were about to fall off by the time we were finished – he loved it though and he is getting to know all my mates here.
Then we had lunch at the local RSL club (returned services league – hard one to explain to non-Aussie’s). Then we played 9 holes – Kip is a much better golfer than I will ever be. From the golf club everyone came back to my place to keep drinking and we watched the Bledisloe Cup – a rugby game between Australia (Wallabies) and New Zealand (All Blacks) which turned out to be a draw.
After the rugby everyone was feeling warm and fuzzy (might have been the Bundy Rum – a local dark rum called Bundaburg – that we had been drinking since golf). So we all walked the 200 yards down the street to the local pub.
Everyone thinks Kips accent is thick although he is a Colorado native and I don’t think he has much of an accent at all. But he had fun and got talking to random people which he thought was hillarious considering when I’m in Colorado I’m the point of difference with my accent.
On leaving the pub we grabbed some kebabs, an ancient Aussie tradition and walked back along the beach to my place.
I think Sunday is going to be a lazy day.
It is so much fun looking after Kip, he has been a wonderful host to me when I’ve been in Colorado and it is wonderful to return the favour.
Kip made it safe and sound and I had a great Friday night in the big smoke.
Yesterday, Sunday, the boys were about and we had an afternoon BBQ and some BYC, back yard cricket. The back yard at one of the boys houses looks just like the one in the pic below.
No speedos but some short shorts that some of the guys love wearing.
It was a great afternoon and Kip can’t believe that even my accent sounds thicker here compared to when I left Colorado back in February.
This week it is supposed to be pretty cold so I might start looking at a ski trip down to Perisher…. whoohooo!!!!
Ow – and Alex was around as well and got along fine with Kip….. I think something between the three of us will happen this week. I will keep you guys posted. Actually, tomorrow I’ll post about what I got up to in Sydney.
