Back in summer someone told me about a Swimming Watch that counts laps – I’m pretty sure it was over on the SwimmerSexuality.com forum.
One of the things that does annoy me is counting laps when I’m swimming – I keep loosing count. I’ve been enjoying my running recently because I don’t have to think about it and can let my mind wander on different things. So often when I’m lap swimming I’m too busy trying to concentrate on how far I’ve swam.
Anyways – after some discussion on the SwimmerSexuality.com forum, I did some more of my own research and I bought the ‘Swimmate’. I’ve been using for the last couple of months and been meaning to tell you guys about it – it is awesome!!!! I don’t know how it works but you punch in how long the pool is, hit start and then when you are done, it tells you how many laps and how far you’ve gone.
I’m sure there is other stuff on it but that is all I wanted it for.
I don’t make any money from this plug and I bought the watch myself (it was like US$80 I think) but I thought I’d share this with you guys. Just Google ‘swimmate’ – it looks like this.

I also frequently loose count, but when I don’t, I notice that my speed is rather constant. So, rather than counting, I may just set a target of 30 or 45 minutes and keep going until it’s over.
Swimming is excellent as fitness training, but sometimes it is soooo boring. Some time ago, somebody described it as “counting tiles”.

I have a personal rule when swimming, if I loose count of my laps, or not sure on which lap I am on, then I go the the lowest I remember swimming, which in the end makes me swim more. I also break my swimming in blocks of 15-20 laps.
I have swimmed with a watch before (not one of those), but it seems to bother me while swimming, maybe it is just getting used to it.

Guys,
I seem to swim at a pretty regular rate as well. For 500m I do it in just over 10mins. When I push it I come in right on 10mins. When I take it slower and smoother I come in on 10mins 30secs – really not that big a difference.
Usually I’d go down to the last lap that I could remember as well. I would never normally swim with a watch either because it was annoying but this one is pretty good – really small. I’d never wear it anywhere else other than the pool.
Keep on swimming guys!!!

Since switching to a 25m pool, i’ve had the same problem, I’ve found it easier to count distance rather than laps. The numbers just seem to stick in my memory better.
