I’m feeling a lot better today guys. Tomorrow I’m taking ‘Rachel’ out for dinner and I’ve been trying to tell you guys about her and our meeting last Friday. My original San Francisco mate has tomorrow off and I think I’ll be up for a game of tennis – I’m terrible at tennis but I’m keen for the exercise and the courts up at Buena Vista park have an amazing view (although the courts are pretty old).
The topic of Julian Assange comes up a little bit recently – maybe because I’m an Aussie a lot of my American friends what to know what I think of him. I just saw on TV that he has lost his appeal against his extradition from the UK.
To be honest, I have been out of the news cycle when Assange has been in the headlines and I really don’t know what to make of his current sexual molestation charges. On that topic I don’t know Assange or what happened and I’d hate to be on record defending him if it came out that he was guilty of what has been alleged.
As for WikiLeaks….. I view it as a media outlet, not a media source. I think that kid in the US who released sensitive information to WikiLeaks should be tried for treason and if found guilty should face the consequences – what he did was wrong. But I don’t think you can blame a media outlet when it didn’t do anything illegal to get the source material.
I’m a little naive and I’m interested to hear your thoughts.

First consequence of the extradition: Assange will have to face rape accusations in Sweden.
I would be very surprised is Sweden would be willing to extradite him to the USA thereafter, because it is very obvious, that he cannot expect a fair trial in the USA. Extradition to the USA would severely compromise the high justice standards, which Sweden shares with the other Scandinavian countries.
I would like to suggest everybody, who still trusts the “justice system” of the USA, to take into account how the US are still sabotaging the International Criminal Court in the Hague, as described very well in following link:

Dave, I suggest you stick to speedo infatuation as its quite clear you know nothing about law and are VERY naive.
I agree with Fred that if Assange is extradited to Sweden he is unlikely to be extradited to the US. If the US wanted to extradite Assange they would stand their best chance applying to the UK for an extradition because of the lop sided and lax extradition treaty the UK has with the US. So in fact being extradited to Sweden can be seen as a defence for Assange not a risk in respect of US extradition preceedings.
(And before anyone asks the reason why the US has not applyed to the UK for an Assange extradition is that there is already a request in from Sweden and that has to be dealt with before any others are considered)

Hi Dave,
It’s great to see the replies to your ‘interesting’ post (yawn). Assange is too complex for any of us to really know the truth. I do agree that WikiLeaks is a media outlet, and I’m glad you pointed that out. I still can’t believe Govt’s can shut it down.
But really, we want to live vicariously through your experiences – as you an exciting and daring guy. Keep us up on your adventures and let the politicos find their news elsewhere.
No details on your San Fran trip must mean your lips are sealed yet many of us are quite curious.
Luv Your Blog and keep it coming.

Thanks for your reply guys.
Don’t forget – if you don’t like what I write…. feel free to close the browser window. Its my blog and I’ll cry if I want to – hahaha.
As opposed to the legal proceedures, which I’m sure I could have researched myself, I was interested to hear if anyone had opinions on Assange himself.

Dave I try to keep out of politics. But those replies above are pretty nasty. Totes agree with your retort.
Assange is one guy I never want to see in a speedo, haha!

Hungspeedoguy,
You must lead a pretty sheltered life if you think those replies were nasty
Dave,
Sure you can write what you want. But if you don’t like to be criticised I suggest a blog is the wrong place for you.
Sure you could have researched the legal procedures yourself – its a pity that you didn’t
As to opinions on Assange himself. He faces the very real possibility of trial for sex offences and so the less speculation about him the better IMO.
