What a wonderful week for democracy it has been.
I’m happy that Obama won. Although I think McCain would be better for the US economy Obama’s election will be good for US international relations. I’m happy that John Key won the Kiwi election yesterday and I’m happy that Winston Peters doesn’t have a job today.
Two exceptions though – I’m not happy about the democrats having control of all three branches of government and I don’t get why people voted in California to restrict the definition of marriage to a man and a woman.
Overall a good week I think.
Today I’m just having a lazy one – it is just after 5pm and I’m still in bed (I have been reading and working all day but it is raining outside and there is nothing better to do). I got a camera off a friend of mine yesterday so this week I’m going to do some hiking and show off this beautiful country to you guys.
And I just saw this pic posted at WhiteSpeedos.com and I thought you guys might enjoy it. Am I nice or what?

It shows the difference between party and ideology in American politics. While the Democratic Party’s numbers grew exponentially across the country, people’s beliefs are still roughly the same as they have always been. This is evident in California, a state that recently elected a Republican Governor, where 61% of the voters chose Obama while only 48% opposed Prop 8.
And while you may be disappointed that the Democrats control both the White House and both chambers of Congress, keep in mind that 7 out of the 9 members of our Supreme Court have been appointed by Republicans. So they have not completely faded from our decision making practices.
