Do you know about Senator David Norris of the Irish Senate? He’s quite a character (the self-described “performing flea of Irish politics”), and would be loads of fun to have a few shots with, I think. He was also utterly essential in getting homosexuality decriminalized in Ireland in the early 90s.

Yes, Barney is a great role model…and even if you don’t agree with his political views…which here in America are not really that “liberal” or “progressive” nor in any way radical as the ultra right would like to paint them, he is a fair man and very smart.

    Dr. Phil & Raulito,

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I love posting some more ‘political’ posts but I’m always a little anxious about it.

Love reading your comments – cheers guys.

Not sure how famous these people will be in Aus but they are all really well-known in the UK…

    Scott Mills (BBC Radio1 DJ)
    Derren Brown (magician, illusionist)
Rupert Everett (actor – realllllllly hot haha!)

Nice to hear some slight politics stuff every now and then.

I only just found out that penny wong was gay this week. No idea how i missed that one. Sadly i think she’s the only openly gay federal politician in aus?

I despise Barney Frank. That man ought to be in a orange jump suit in Sing Sing. Not to mention that he is a total a-hole. Apparently he just recently threw a public tantrum when denied a $1 senior discount.

No, if you want a gay role model politician, look up Rep. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin. Granted she has the same politics as Frank and isn’t as well known as him, but she isn’t nasty like him.

Dave, I have been reading your blog for years and I also enjoy seeing some political comments every now and then.

On a side note, Jared Polis was also elected in 2009 as the first openly gay candidate to be elected to the US Congress. He represents Colorado’s 2nd District.

Art – I know what you mean about Frank being a bit of a circus act. I really do not agree with his politics and I suppose I don’t mind his character because I don’t take him seriously.

Thanks for the heads up on Jared Polis – I’ll do some more research on your comments and maybe post about it again in a couple of weeks.

I met Chris Carter at Big Gay Day in April this year. He seemed like a nice guy, and he has done a lot for the G&L community in NZ. I was real disappointed and annoyed with his actions last week and feel that he should leave parliament now and force a bi-election (for gays, lesbians and straights too).
